Welcome to Mr. Rowland's class!

Dear parents of  604 students,

My name is Mr. Rowland, and I hail from London, England. I have been living and teaching in Taiwan for almost 16 years now. I have taught all ages of students from kindergarten to adult. This will be my 4th year at Xinmin, and my 3rd year of teaching 6th grade at this school.

I am married to a wonderful Taiwanese lady and have two kids. One is my daughter, who is 17 years of age and beginning her final year of senior high school. My son will be 6 years old near the end of this year and is in kindergarten.

Having observed, helped and encouraged my daughter through her school life, I completely understand the concerns of parents and their child's education.  I know that the workload on students with Chinese homework is an extremely heavy one, hence the fact I do not give homework that will take more than 20 minutes.

Over the next 10 months I will get to know the students and will help and encourage their development of English usage. I am sure you already are aware that if we work together on this we can help these kids to shine. I will teach to a format that involves repetition of form and structure, but is a logical progression that will enhance their usage of the language, putting them in good stead for high school and beyond.

I look forward to meeting you at the Parent & Teachers Conference to discuss these matters further.

Best regards

Brian Rowland
